Welcome to the Treat Yourself gift guide. There tend to be two groups of people when it comes to Valentine’s Day – people who think of it as a garbage, made-up holiday and those who love it so much that they will even watch Garry Marshall’s Valentine’s Day (2006). I’m somewhere in between, proving that I probably shouldn’t generalize in my own article. But on to more important things: TREATING YOURSELF.
Treating yourself isn’t necessarily about buying the most expensive thing you’ve been coveting for months (hello $600 Raey turtleneck sweater!). It can be as simple as a nail polish in a fun shade you wouldn’t normally try. We have a soft spot for Chanel but have you tried It’s about buying the candle that’s an indulgence but makes you love the way your home smells. If you’re tired of Dyptique or want to keep up with the millennials, try Boy Smells.
Who says a man has to be the one to buy you jewelry? There are always earrings, dainty necklaces, and chunky gold rings on my wishlist. Try a brand like Alighieri for romantic, old-school pieces. Or maybe you want something that will anchor your wardrobe, like a power blazer you can wear anywhere and feel amazing in it.
The whole point of TREAT YOURSELF is to indulge. Not irresponsibly, of course, but just a little (or big) something that you wouldn’t normally buy. Valentine’s Day is all about love after all, and as RuPaul says, “If you don’t love yourself, how the h*** are you gonna love somebody else?”
