The sun is shining, spring is fully here, and I’m fantasizing about dinner parties. I’m talking about eating with friends al fresco, lots of rosé, and swanning around in a long dress. I can’t have the friends over yet, but there’s no reason not to dress in floral maxi dresses, even if I’m alone. These dresses are the best for several reasons: they’re comfortable, they’re easy, and they’re stunning. Right now, think of them as especially fancy nightgown that you wear inside the house. They’re loose and swingy, with no confined waist, which means I can wear them now and after I can start going to the gym regularly again.
This Fiore maxi dress from Natalie Martin kicked off this whole obsession. While it’ll look gorgeous whenever I make it back out into the world, it looks just as good when I’m ironing napkins for the third time this week. I also love the blue version, which is a soothing blue batik-print dress that makes me feel like I’m on vacation just by looking at it. This Anthropologie Jacaranda maxi dress might be the ultimate in dress up/dress down strategy, thanks to it’s stunning top-to-bottom embroidery.
These aren’t your mother floral dresses either, with designers playing around with print and color in a modern way. Farm Rio’s mixed-print maxi dress with kimono sleeves is a new spin on a classic. Tory Burch’s retro-inspired silhouette and pleats feel fresh when paired with bright colors. And the big look doesn’t have to mean big money, either. Budget-friendly but still stylish options are everywhere, like this pretty garden-inspired one from H&M. Or this modern floral in pink-and-black.
