Sometimes the simplest look really is the best. Take this transitional fall look, for example. Just a plain black cashmere sweater, dark wash denim with the perfect amount of slouch, and a slingback. A less is more masterpiece! Shop the pieces to get the look for yourself below.
Can you tell I’m obsessed with dark wash denim right now? They feel fresher, more elegant, and the right kind of formal for fall. The high-waisted, wide-legged silhouette is super flattering, making your legs effortlessly look longer and leaner. This pair from Mango or Zara’s more tailored pair both come in under $100. Banana Republic’s Icon jean nails the 70’s references while staying current, as does J.Crew’s trouser jean.
Don’t overthink a black crewneck sweater. These days, I always reach for my Quince crewneck. At $50, it’s impossible to beat the quality and price point. J.Crew’s cashmere program is another incredible resource. Their Perfect crewneck is a little bit heavier and little bit looser, but it’s still a great deal at $168.
When a look is this simple, the devil really is in the details. You want to make sure all of your accessories are working together in a way that enhances the look, instead of distracting from it. A skinny black belt and black leather slingback tie everything together beautifully. I love this extra-skinny Veronica Beard dash belt or this more classic J.Crew belt, and both come in around or under $150. A pointed toe slingback is turning out to be my go-to shoe during this weird transitional period, like this Mango pair, Tory Burch’s refined pumps, or Vince’s croc-embossed pair.
The final touch? A slouchy, perfectly broken-in bag big enough to make schlepping look chic. A woven leather bag adds a touch of texture and contrast, perfectly bridging sunny summer days to chillier nights. And you don’t have to pay Bottega prices to get the look! I love Dragon Diffusion’s Big Leather bag, or their more delicate, basket-sized Grace bag.
