It’s time to swap out your cashmere for your beach sweaters! What’s a beach sweater you ask? For me, the right beach sweater makes me feel like a model in a vintage J.Crew catalog or the heroine of a Nancy Meyers movie. It’s classic, might be colorful, and definitely cotton. Shop our favorites now!
In the header image, I’m wearing this true blue cotton sweater from Mersea. I love the deeply saturated hue, but the details are just as good too! The ribbing at the neck and the sleeves ticks off those vintage Americana catalog vibes I’m always looking for in a beach sweater. The Amalfi also comes in a pinky peach shade and a cabbage patch green, if that’s more your style.
I know I’ve mentioned vintage J.Crew catalogs twice already, but I can’t help it. They’re always on my summer moodboard! Channel the vintage vibes with some of J.Crew’s current offerings, like their aptly titled cotton beach sweater in a warm vanilla color or a buttery yellow. The chunky knit and textured cotton blend keep things breezy. La Ligne’s Mini Marina sweater has a chunkier knit, too, and my favorite detail: a mini roll neck. How delicious! The rollneck and the blue and white stripe make it the platonic ideal of beach sweaters. The baby blue-and-brown combo is an unexpected winner, too.
Kule is another brand with deeply American DNA. Their sweaters are equally colorful, preppy, and sporty – perfect for frolicking on a beach or sitting in front of a fire. The blue-and-orangey red striped Matey sweater is in my cart currently. And of course, there’s always Quince. Their $50 cotton sweaters are probably the best bargain in this story.
One of the biggest trends of the summer is shaping up to be crochet and hyper textured pieces. We’ll have more on this later, but dip your toe in now with super colorful, pretty sweaters like this rainbow Free People number or this striped red-and-white v-neck sweater. On the more low-key end of things, this navy pullover does the trick.
