Beyond LOLs

ICYMI, this is totally your go-to acronym dictionary.
by In The Groove February 28, 2020
Beyond LOLs

Translation please? Sometimes you need a dictionary for all those darling acronyms. While we’re certainly not experts on all of the things the cool kids are saying these days, here’s a few we’ve finally mastered and some that will just make you smile. Who makes this stuff up? Seriously?

IJLTP: I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE

The perfect hashtag for any and all Instagram posts related to wherever you’re having a good time.

IDK: I DON’T KNOW

Did we originally think the uppercase I was a lowercase L? Um…maybe. Did our daughters make fun of us? Absolutely. All we can tell you is IDK sure comes in handy when we’re texting each other.

GOAT: GREATEST OF ALL TIME

“Ina Garten’s roast chicken recipe is the best.” “Absolutely. It’s the GOAT.” If you’re a Martha person, don’t hold it against us.

TL,DR: TOO LONG, DIDN’T READ

Something to put at the end of a long, rambly text message or post. Perhaps even this one.

ICYMI: IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

When you need to remind someone about something for the millionth time and you’re really about to lose it. Or for when you want to direct someone to read something because he or she genuinely missed it.

SMH: SHAKING MY HEAD

The most concise way to express “I’m not mad, just disappointed.”

FTW: FOR THE WIN

Just a cooler way to say that’s great or awesome. Not to be confused with WTF.

WTF: WHAT THE F**K

We assume you already know this one.

NGL: NOT GONNA LIE

When someone needs the cold hard truth.

FOMO: FEAR OF MISSING OUT

For when you go down the Facebook rabbit hole and notice that everybody seems to be having a better time than you are.

IIRC: IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY

Because let’s face it–we’re forgetting a lot more than we’d like to admit or recalling what should have been forgotten. All that priceless but useless information. IIRC is the perfect “back away from certainty.”
