What We’re Wearing For The Holidays

Be best dressed at your table this year, thanks to Phoebe Philo

What We’re Wearing For The Holidays

Thanksgiving and fashion aren’t two terms that necessarily go together. But in our pursuit of living our lives as stylishly as possible, we went looking for the perfect outfit to wear at the Thanksgiving table that a) looks good and b) doesn’t leave you struggling to unbutton your pants at the end of the meal. So we turned to a professional: Phoebe Philo, former head designer of Celine and all-around chic age-defying woman.

Her outfit breaks down into five key parts. You’ll need an oversized sweater that still has some structure to keep it polished. Phoebe’s is a turtleneck, which is the It Knit of the season, but if that seems a little too warm for you then don’t be afraid to swap out for a crewneck. This Acne Studios sweater is a good dupe, and this H&M one is extremely wallet friendly.

Next, you need comfortable pants. More specifically, you need pull-on pants. This year we’re reclaiming the term from something outdated to something utilitarian and chic. J.Crew’s velvet pants fit the bill perfectly. These Madewell pants are great too. You need a statement sneaker, like this neon accented and snakeskin Cortez. Or these glitter swoosh Reacts. You need an oxblood tote, perfect for stuffing with stuffing and a magnum of natural wine. Cuyana makes an amazing one, and so does Bottega Veneta. Finally, throw a coat on and you’ll be good to go. You can go sharp and tailored with this black coat from Cos, or soft and puffy with a chic puffer from H&M.

You’ll be best dressed at your table for sure.

All of our recommendations are curated by Susan & the In The Groove editorial team. In some, but not all cases, we receive a small commission for leading you to what, how and where to buy all this wonderful stuff.

Throwing it back to this @sowhendoi podcast, where we’re joined by Marcy Dinkins and Lynn Williams, two women navigating dating after 50 following the loss of their husbands. Through very different journeys, they share what it’s really like to re-enter the dating world—awkward first dates, unexpected sparks, shifting identity, and the challenge of opening your heart again. We talk about confidence, independence, dating apps, and the reality of building a new life while honoring the one you had. If this resonates with you, we hope it serves as a reminder that you don’t have to rush, settle, or follow anyone else’s timeline when it comes to dating later in life.
