There’s something about a turtleneck that just feels sexy to me. Maybe it’s the Phoebe Philo effect, but a turtleneck just seems to be the chosen piece of confident, chic women everywhere.
For a more basic turtleneck, you can’t go wrong with J.Crew’s tissue turtleneck. It’s thin enough to layer under shirts or sweaters in the winter, but substantial enough to keep you warm through the fall. Plus, it comes in a bunch of different colors (like leopard!) and is affordable enough to stock up. Arket’s roll-neck top feels a little different, but fills the same wardrobe role. Mango has two thin ribbed turtlenecks, if you want a little bit of texture and visual interest.
Raey’s sweater is an elevated version, with its raw-edge cashmere material. I love wearing it with boyfriend jeans and loafers for a put-together feel. Everlane always has the cashmere on deck, and I love their black cashmere turtleneck. Their oversized stroopwaffel-inspired sweater is a step up from a more basic black, and it’s recycled cashmere so you don’t have to feel guilty. AYR’s Le Square sweater gives you a little bit of swing, and cable-knit is always a good idea.
Speaking of cable-knit, I love Anthropologie’s version of the classic sweater. They’re always good for a statement sweater, like this absolutely adorable cozy number with a giant heart on the back. This floaty, tunic-y scalloped sweater is also perfectly cozy. It makes you want to curl up in front of the fireplace with hot chocolate.
Somewhere in between a poncho and a sweater, I’ve been wearing a lot of this short-sleeved top because it’s a little bit lighter. Later in the winter, I’ll wear a long-sleeve shirt layered underneath. The statement sleeves on this gray one give it a dramatic edge.
