Spring is a fickle season, with sunny days and cold nights. Or sunny days that aren’t so warm when you get outside! That’s why having the right jacket is key to any spring wardrobe. You don’t want something too heavy, but you still want to be able to layer a sweater. We rounded up our favorite transitional jackets so you can look and feel good all spring.
One angle I’ve really been loving is the utilitarian trend carrying over from cargo pants to army jacket. You can’t go wrong with a classic safari green jacket like this Velvet by Graham & Spencer one or Parajumper’s khaki utility version but there are plenty of more modern, interesting versions like this clean minimalist jacket by GRACIA. COS’s shacket-y option is nice and roomy, making it easy to layer and delivering high style at a low price point.
Another kind of jacket that’s perfect for transitional weather? A quilted, shorter jacket. It can be provide a very ‘English at their weekend house’ vibe. Alpha Industries’s quilted liner is cut pretty straight to the body and slightly cropped, and I love the steely blue color. For a little more drama, you can steer away from the work coat vibe and towards statement details like the folded collar on this white Varley jacket. Another fun option is this bubblegum pink Sleeper puffer jacket with small rhinestones, for the maximalists out there. Tuckernuck’s calvary quilt is a more classic, preppier iteration with the slim cut fit and snap buttons.
There are a few other kinds of jackets that feel exciting again. I know jean jackets might not sound like cutting edge fashion, but there’s something about this longer, khaki-colored Banana Republic jacket that feels like an updated take on the swingy car coat. Free People is also in on light colored denim, but their cropped jacket is a decidedly more casual vibe.
