These days, I’m getting dressed from the foot up. A comfortable, cute shoe first – and then the outfit follows! There are six categories of shoes that satisfies every sartorial need: sneakers, ballet flats, loafers, heels, and boots. With these pairs, you’ll always look good. And most importantly, stay comfortable!
When it comes to sneakers, you really only need two pairs: one white and one black. My favorite pair lately has been the classic Adidas sambas. Luckily, they come in both colors. Common Projects’s white sneaker looks like summer and grass tennis courts.
Ballet flats made a huge comeback last year. It’s easy to see why. You can dress them up or down, inject a bit of feminine allure, and always stay comfortable. I love Loeffler Randall’s higher cut pair, the slightly squared off toes of this M.Gemi pair, and this quilted Chanel dupe from Jon Josef.
I still have my black Gucci loafers I bought fifteen years ago, and even though they were a splurge, I’ve gotten the cost per wear down to basically pennies. If that’s a little too pricy at the moment, we have plenty of other options. It Girls love Emme Parsons croc-embossed loafers. Madewell’s chunky lug-sole loafers are a wallet-friendly option, too.
Just because the heel is low doesn’t mean it can’t still be stylish! Lately, I’ve been favoring more of an 80’s inspired silhouette, like a kitten heel pump or a slingback. M.Gemi’s pointy toed Marzia shoe reminds me of something Julia Roberts would wear in Pretty Woman. The buckle detail on Larroude’s patent leather slingback reminds me of this season’s hottest Miu Miu shoe. If you want a nude, Theory’s slingback strikes a more professional note.
Finally, to round out your collection, black booties that will defeat all the elements until spring comes around. A block heel is usually more comfortable, and I love Loeffler Randall’s version. Anine Bing’s Jones boots have a swooping gold zipper that cuts across the foot, giving you some edge.
