When I think of summer vacations, it’s hard not to romanticize Jackie O’s Greek era. Strolling through cobblestone streets, lounging on Aristotle Onassis’s yacht, always dressed simply but elegantly? At least we can get one out of three. Shop our favorite Jackie O look and get a little of her chic style for yourself this summer.
Like so many of the best outfits, this one isn’t actually that complicated. It’s all about really great basics and perfect proportions. Take her pants, for example. I love the crispness of the crop and the perfect not-too-wide, not-too-straight leg shape. Don’t be afraid of something with a lower rise, like this Vince cotton cropped pant. Of course, Alex Mill has a perfectly casual chino. If you’re looking for a high-waisted pant, Banana Republic’s twill pant is perfect.
Don’t overthink it on top, just throw on a reliably great tee. It might be counterintuitive, but I love a dark t-shirt in the summer because it can hide sweat stains. This elbow-length Banana Republic option, this fitted Michael Stars top, and of course Gap all have great options.
When it comes to shoes, the simpler the better. A pair of leather thongs, in some kind of neutral. I love these slightly chunkier Vince dark green leather sandals, but these camel colored Beek thongs are as classic as it gets. J.Crew’s Capri sandals come in under $100!
Finally, a scarf. I know it can seem old-fashioned, but I’ve been wearing mine a lot more than I thought I would. There’s something so elegant and effortless about it. Oh this? It’s just a vintage Hermes scarf at the beach. No big deal! It goes as well with your bathing suit coverup as it does on the handle of your favorite bag, and it’s a particularly stylish way to hide the scraggly day 3 of a blowout. Here are a few favorites: this vaguely Western cream-and-beige Coach scarf, a classic red cotton Alex Mill bandana, or a butter yellow Hermes equestrian number.
