The barn jacket is still one of fall’s biggest trends this year. It’s so easy to style, from jeans and sneakers to throwing it over an a-line skirt and ballet flats. From splurge-worthy investment pieces or high street options, we found the best coats at every price point.
We start with the barn jacket that kicked this craze off, and I’m not talking about the Prada runway version. We’re taking it across the pound and into the countryside with Barbour’s iconic jacket. At $500, it’s definitely on the pricier side, but this waxed canvas coat is as durable and classic as it gets. For a less rustic splurge, go with Doen, a brand known for their California countryside energy. The interesting pocket details and dropped shoulders give it a little more elegance and formality.
But, the really great thing about this jacket is you don’t have to spend a ton to find a super stylish version. In fact, Old Navy has a cute olive green option for $35! I really like Aritzia’s denim-focused spin on the silhouette, too. And you can always rely on J.Crew. Their denim version is longer and swingier, and much more relaxed.
Somewhere in the middle, there’s Alex Mill’s. His Chiltern jacket feels a lot more autumnal, especially in a rich dark brown or red shade. The brown of the collar and cuffs gives so much depth and texture in a really unusual way. And if you’re really throwing money at it, you can’t get more luxurious or show-stopping than Veronica Beard’s suede jacket. The slightly cropped and fitted length make it feel fancy, but you can still throw it on over leggings and sneakers.
