Nothing makes your everyday uniform feel fresher than a new pair of jeans. Swapping out your usual shape for something new can totally change your vibe, like with this season’s sculptural barrel legs, a dramatic wide leg, or an updated classic straight leg. Shop our favorites now.
I’m going to start with one that might seem intimidating: the barrel jean. Don’t let the dramatic silhouette scare you. That’s exactly the reason it works so well! My favorite way to wear this is as simply as possible – just a great white t-shirt, sweater, and loafers. The sculptural shape really elevates your everyday look. These dark-wash Zara jeans or these Gap jeans are a good way to try the trend out for under $100. I also love Frame’s Bubble jean and AYR’s the Knockout if you’re looking to invest.
The wide leg jean has been the jean of the past few fall seasons, but I’m still not tired of mine. I think they’re incredibly versatile – just as easy to wear with sneakers or your favorite heel. There are two different kinds, a more fitted flare and a slouchier boyish silhouette. These J.Crew jeans, Banana Republic’s dark wash pair, and La Ligne’s Isadora are all high-waisted and almost feel like trousers. I really love the mid-rise waist of these J.Crew jeans, which look insanely comfortable but still look polished with a blazer thrown on top.
While the skinny is gaining momentum, the retro-inspired straight leg jeans is still a classic for a reason. As someone who loves an oversized knit or blazer, a straight leg provides the perfect balance on bottom. I love the high waist on Banana Republic’s 90s jean. La Ligne’s straight leg option is on the skinnier side, with just enough stretch to stay comfortable. There are some really great options at a lower price point too, like this Gap slim straight pair and Mango’s slightly cropped version.
