We Learned How To Do A Smokey Eye And You Can Too

A smokey eye is easier than you think, we promise.
by Brianna Porter December 4, 2018

Usually, we have a strict ‘less is more’ policy around these parts. You can forget about that for this look. Sometimes, only a smokey eye will do. Nothing else satisfies the need for movie star glamour or can bring the same amount of drama. So we went down to Blushington and Susan learned how to do it herself. She had a little help from Elena, one of their specialists, but we promise it’s easier than it looks. Below, a step by step guide in case you’re not a visual learner.

  1. Add a little bit of brown in the crease of your eyes, because it’s a great transition color
  2. Grab your smaller blending brush and dab it in a dark brown. In a circular motion, brush the color on to the outer corner of the eye in a v-shape. The circular motion is to help blend it, which is very important.
  3. Tap on a lighter, shimmery shade up and down the middle of your lid to help build depth.
  4. Grab your bigger blending brush and blend, blend, blend. You can never blend too much!
  5. If you like eyeliner on your waterline, now’s the time to add it. Make sure you pick a brown instead of a black. Black can be a little too heavy.
  6. Add a dark brown shadow on the waterline using a pencil brush, and smudge it.
  7. Finally, draw brown pencil liner on the top of your lids.
  8. Be smoking hot. Grace everyone with your presence.

We rounded up a few of our favorite eye shadow palettes that will have everything you need in one pretty package. Plus all the best eyeliners and brushes you’ll need to execute your perfect smokey eye look.

What begins as a conversation about marriage quickly expands into a thoughtful look at emotional labor, evolving relationships, friendship, identity, and why so many women are redefining what fulfillment looks like in midlife.
