SENSIBLE SHOES…What’s sensible about shoes anyway? Does any article of clothing inspire less sensible behaviors? Let’s face it, other than protecting our feet from rough terrain or in extreme temperatures, shoes are mostly and entirely impractical. We cover happy toes, squeeze our soles into impossible shapes and pay enormous sums, all in the service of shoe fashion – a trope most of us just cannot or will not resist. Even those of us who have heard the riot act recommendations from our doctors, just cannot give up heels for special occasions, such as a visit to the museum, or the grocery store or the podiatrist (sic.)
Our good news report is that this season there are more and more “sensible” options: kitten heels that feel incredibly feminine if not downright sexy, chunky square-ish heels that give a solid pep to our step and all on a slingback last. The slingback offers an ankle flattering fashionable yet the smart alternative to teetering on tall towers. Some even insist that a lower/sensible heel is better for your feet and your back than the flatter than flat ballet slippers or slides.
The best part is that these slingbacks bring us the kind of joy that even Marie Kondo might appreciate. They inspire a sisterly adoration as we admire her beauty and respect her ability to keep us walking tall. And the assortment is a wonderland of polka dots, gingham, cork, snakeskin and mesh. So many slings because we love looking great and walking, too.
