The biggest trend of the season has turned out to be colors. And it’s even gotten to me, the queen of white shirts and khakis. This summer, I’ve been leaving my usual tops hanging in the closet and reaching for blues, oranges, greens, and pinks instead. If you’re afraid of color, don’t be! Rock your new colorful shirt with a pair of white jeans and wear your new favorite fashion formula all summer long.
For me, the most important thing about a shirt is the proper fit. Some people like shirts cut a little closer to the body, and cropped. Others like them oversized and long. If you want the perfect oversized shirt like the one in the header image, Banana Republic’s poplin shirt in a perky kelly green is the one for you. COS, the patron saints of oversized but still polished shirts, also has a linen version that almost feels like a tunic.
& Other Stories keeps the oversized vibe going with their signature patch pocket shirt, and I particularly love the pale blue, bright orange, and aquamarine options. H&M is getting in on the trend with over seven color options, these cheery tomato red shirts and a bright green option are the standouts.
Sometimes, the proportions of an outfit just call for something a little more ladylike. I love this J.McLaughlin cornflower blue linen tunic, which is still easy breezy but feels just a tad dressier. It comes in a pretty pale pink. J.Crew’s classic fit shirt is a time-tested favorite, but the soft-feel fabric and hazy pink floral give it an upgrade.
You can’t talk about button-down shirts without talking about Frank & Eileen. Their Eileen cut is a relaxed fit, and it comes in tons of colors and fabrics. I love this pink linen, a fuchsia chambray, and the black cotton.
