Denim is arguably America’s greatest contribution to the world of fashion. When the first pair of dungarees were invented, who would have thought it would turn into such a versatile fabric? Far from its early cowboy days, denim is now downright chic. From jackets to shirts to skirts to jeans, denim is truly the workhorse of a fashionable woman’s closet. Our denim edit is a collection of our favorite pieces, so all you have to worry about is where you’re wearing them.
I’m always on the lookout for the perfect pair of jeans. Levi’s iconic Wedgie jean is universally flattering, high-waisted, and cut at the ankle – plus you can’t beat the price. Everlane’s denim is a favorite too, like their signature straight-leg cut, the Cheeky. The Super-Soft Relaxed jean is for all the boyfriend jean aficionados. If you feel like treating yourself, Frame has a new pair of dark wash denim with a slight flare that I’m fantasizing about for fall. And when in doubt, you can always rely on a pair of skinnies from J.Crew.
Until we reach full fall territory, though, play around with some Bermuda shorts and skirts to keep things breezy. I love a Bermuda short with a looser cut through the thigh, like these J.Crew Norfolk shorts, these high-waisted Mango ones, or this pair of Levi’s. This A-line skirt from Joe’s Jeans is easy to dress up or down.
I think a jean-on-jean moment (aka the Canadian tuxedo) is an extremely versatile look, but you can wear a chambray shirt with just about anything. I love J.Crew’s slim-fit shirt, because it’s perfect for tucking in. If that’s not your style, Alex Mill’s vintage-inspired Western shirt is a fantastic take. Finally, as we approach transitional weather, it’s always nice to have a jean jacket. I’ll be wearing this Everlane modern jacket all the time.
