It’s that time of year again. The time for everyone to gather round, cozy up, and binge watch a bunch of TV shows. And while we’re really sad there is no new season of The Crown , there are still plenty of other shows to keep you glued to your screens in the presence of the people you love most. Can we still call it “bonding” if we’re merely staring in the same direction? Not quite sure. Stay tuned to these winners.
The Great British Baking Show
Is there any better chemistry than the relationship between Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood (yes, real names)? We don’t watch this for the Chantilly creme or holiday trifle, which is so sweet its’kind of gross, rawther, we watch this for the straight- faced British seriousness of the contestants and judges. And they are all so well-mannered it is an antidote to the rest of reality and reality tv. Watch on Netflix.
My Brilliant Friend
Elena Ferrante geeks are freaking out over the experience of seeing these beloved and often unlikeable characters come to life. Once we realized we could turn down the volume and READ the subtitles, we were transported (truly, as the production value is fantastico) to rough and violent Naples in the 1950’s. Not sure how we will recover when the 8 part-er on HBO is finished.
Outlander
Most of us agree that books give rise to the best of everything and this is no exception. Diana Gabaldon has written ten books in the Outlander Series. Starz has produced four seasons so far, and if you are looking for sex, violence, history, amazing costumes, and more, it’s well worth going back to when Claire makes her first time traveling journey from 1945 to 1743. Stream on demand or STARZ on Prime.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Well thank goodness she’s back. Midge Maisel, estranged wife of Joel, daughter of the fifties and two imposing parents, struggling stand-up comic and mother of two children (although they hardly exist) is still brilliant and brilliantly dressed as she begins Season Two with a trip to Paris (yup ,Paris.) Like you, we are waiting to see just what Midge gets up to because you can’t ever keep a funny girl down for long! Check it out on Amazon Prime.
Get Shorty
It’s the insiders inside look into Hollywood as two hitmen try to disengage themselves from working for the baddest ass mother of a Nevada cartel by producing a movie. The great cast is led by Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano and was directed and written by an “A; list of Hollywood directors—see we’re already talking the “talk.”
Younger
Younger is on my list of what to do if snowed in for two days” because there are already 6 seasons. How did they make so many so fast? The trailers looks great and our sisters tell us it is worth the dedication.
