“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long difficult words but rather short, easy words like what about lunch?”
-Winnie The Pooh
Unburdened by the expectations of a healthy breakfast and unfettered by the serious expectations of dinner, lunch is always the glorious and creative middle child of dining. Here at In The Groove, lunch is always the best part of the day. We start thinking about it at 10 am and by noon the discussion is in high octane gear. Once a week we host “Lunch at In The Groove” where we sit down with a notable or new girlfriend and learn something interesting.
Susan Feldman sets the table and leads the conversation and we can’t think of anyone better suited to the task. As the Founder of One King’s Lane, she has some serious table setting chops and a bunker of fantastic table accouterments that make our weekly lunches even better. Susan understands that there is nothing like a new setting to “set” the stage, even the color of a plate or placemat “colors” the mood of even the most casual table. The food is a mood modifier and sometimes we like lunch so much, we even post the recipe
Susan says, “I recognize that I am very, very lucky to now live in my dream house, where I can host these lunches, but it wasn’t always this way. For years I cooked in a small NYC galley. Even then I understood that a few new napkins or a ceramic water pitcher full of supermarket flowers could make my little galley into a dream. The smallest details can have the largest impact.”
Perhaps someday you’ll join us for a “ladies who lunch.” Meanwhile, it’s almost spring and we all deserve a little entertaining pick me up. Why not start with lunch?
All of our recommendations are curated by Susan & the In The Groove editorial team. In some, but not all cases, we receive a small commission for leading you to what, how and where to buy all this wonderful stuff.
